In September of 1967 he joined the Mathematics Department of Gettysburg College. While at Gettysburg he has helped to establish the Computer Science program. He presently holds an appointment as a Professor of Computer Science.
During the 1999-2000 Academic Year Professor Leinbach was a Visiting Scholar at the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at Liverpool John Moores Uiversity where he worked with his colleagues Terence Etchells and David Pountney on the use of Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) in the teaching of mathematics. Thanks to Etchells and Pountney, JMU is a world leader in the pedagogical use of CAS in Mathematics. Times were exciting and productive!
Also, while at JMU Prefessor Leinbach helped with the organizational details of the Fourth International DERIVE-TI92/89 Conference on Computer Algebra in Mathematics Education. The Conference was held in Liverpool July 12 -15, 2000.
Professor Leinbach is married to Patricia Leinbach, the Coroner of Adams County, Pennsylvania. Carl and Pat have 3 children (a daughter, Robin Kimple and 2 sons Carl and Jeff) and 6 grandsons (Brock, Christopher, Connor, Jessie, Jon, and Kyle) and one granddaughter (Julie). Both Pat and Carl enjoy SCUBA Diving and travel widely to view great underwater scenery.
