NOVEMBER, 2000 DEDICATION: This collection is gratefully dedicated to my beloved curator Ms. Anni Cleary, who with devotion and hard work placed my icon collection ICONDE v10.0 on her superb website.

This is my tenth collection of Windows-format icons. The collection grows by accretion, primarily, with each collection thus larger than the one before. This collection contains 800 icons, most of which are individually distinctive. If you own one of the previous collections, it would be best to replace it completely with the current version, because there have been many changes (a pixel here, a pixel there) as well as some annoying but necessary changes in names.

Handling icons in bulk can be tricky as well as grossly wasteful of disk space; to facilitate this, I use a lovely program by William Peterson called "Icon Collector," which is available in shareware form from Great Owl Software

"Icon Collector" is a splendid program for manipulating these and other icons; further, it permitted me to make the enclosed bitmap and .DLL files.

All the included icons are guaranteed original, although some (i.e., CHAOS) were made before I encountered similar (and, yes, sometimes better) icons by other people. And the degree of originality that can be incorporated into a Tetris icon is admittedly limited. Anyhow, the enclosed are a continuing effort at what must surely be a new art form: computer icons. This form resembles a visual haiku, in that the colors and space available are limited to an extent surpassing ordinary rigor. Working within these constraints is both inspirational and time-consuming. I hope you enjoy the work -- and sometimes it << IS >> work -- to date.

Certain icons in this collection are near-duplicates, which in an ideal world would not be counted as separate icons. Sometimes it is hard to choose which of very similar images is better; please take your pick and discard whatever remains. Sorry.
The most notable of these are:

3DTEST1, 2 3DVOL1, 2 AFRICA1, 2 BLUE1, BLUE2
BRAIN1, 2, 3, 4 ELEPH1, 2 HAWAII1, 2 RADIOACT1, RADIOAC2
SCALE1, 2 SCREAM1, 2 SKULLE1, 2, 3 TRIPE1, 2
VWBUG2, 3
